Last time we discussed the advantages of having a private teacher. Now it is time we looked at the pros of kids music school where in addition to having individual lessons there are such things as choir, ensemble, and orchestra. The head of the music school generally possesses strong organizational skills. They are a musician that is capable of not only finding good instructors but also they can organize the entire process of musical education. So a kids music school that has a staff of more than 20 teachers is a pretty serious educational establishment. Generally you can find a number of music instructors, who teach different subjects. The process of selecting teachers for the music school is thorough. Otherwise the school’s reputation will suffer. The beginning of the school year starts with the scheduling of group activities such as choir, ensemble, and orchestra as well as lessons in history and music theory and harmony. After the start of the school year the teachers begin to start filling in their individual lessons schedule. Sometimes in order to attend all the planned lessons a child has to attend school almost every day. This can be inconvenient for parents but on the other hand frequent attendance gives the child a positive boost and motivates the child’s desire to play music. The child meets new people and makes friends with children of different ages. Every day they learn about other children’s interests. If parent’s are serious about their kids music school they need to realize that their child’s friends help inspire them to learn. There are many excellent private teachers. On the other hand only one professional teacher cannot be a substitute for what the child learns when participating in choir, ensemble, and/or the orchestra. One of the best things your child can do is play a duet with another student. However, a duet is great but it does not give a child chance to participate in an orchestra or a choir. It is a group activity that develops your child’s harmonic ear (particularly when he plays or sings secondary parts). Having a harmonic ear helps a young musician avoid many problems during the performance of all pieces in the program. They simply hear what is played in a different way. Also abercrombie , the different music groups stimulate the development of the child’s sense of rhythm and tempo. The student can also use additional instruments such as the metronome. However it is possible that the use of this mechanical device will remove all emotions and the child’s musical expression as they play. Therefore, the use of this instrument is only recommended for senior students when they have to master the complicated technique. Of course all music teachers have studied music theory during their university years and many of them understand the concept very well. One of the huge pros of attending a music school is the fact that all theoretical subjects are taught by specialists and it is very important. For example, let’s take a math teacher from a public school. Regardless of the fact that he can read and write, he won’t be able to teach that to children, just like any other subjects such as astronomy or anatomy. This is exactly what is happening with lessons in harmony, music theory and history. What I am saying is that a piano teacher knows how to teach a child to play piano, a violinist can teach violin and a guitarist can teach guitar. If a private instructor offers you a number of subjects to choose from (e.g. voice, theory, piano and guitar), or even two subjects, you have to realize that he’s only qualified to teach one special subject. If you want proof of the teacher’s credentials, just ask them to show you their Diploma. In Canada we tend to trust people just by taking their word for it. It is great but when it comes down to educating your child, parents must beware. Especially if you are aiming for outstanding results. But if you are fine with a linguist teaching chemistry, it is your choice after all.
